Mitton Hall Wedding Photography: Ashley & David

Shooting at a new venue for the first time is always an exciting thrill, and Mitton Hall completely exceeded every expectation. Nestled in the heart of the Ribble Valley, this historic country house effortlessly blends centuries-old charm with a gorgeous, laid-back modern elegance that makes it an absolute dream to photograph.

Getting ready at Mitton Hall

The preparation rooms at Mitton Hall are some of the grandest I’ve seen. Ashley and her bridal party were initially getting ready in the conference room, which had plenty of space and lots of natural light… perfect for hair, make-up, and of course, photography.

This meant that when Ashley was due to get into her wedding dress, the bridal suite was absolutely spotless, so I could capture the final few details, along with the reveal and some beautiful portraits, without having to move bags and suitcases out of the way… a rare treat indeed!

David also had a room for him and his groomsmen, and this meant I could pop downstairs, literally place David in the lovely light by the window, take a few shots, then ask the groomsmen outside for some classic photos.

All that was left to do was to make use of the stunning balcony for Ashley to make her way to the meet the registrars, and then wait for her to be greeted with some much needed hugs and kisses from her family and wedding party.

The ceremony

The ceremony room was surrounded by windows looking out onto the grounds and covered in twinkly lights. Most couples wish for a beaming sunny day, but an overcast day actually works a lot better for ceremony photos when there are lots of windows involved!

After cheering their way down the aisle, a grand confetti exit was the perfect way to start the afternoon celebrations.

Celebrations, Portraits & Exploring the Grounds

After the hugs, congratulations and of course, canapes and drinks, it was time to make the most of a break in the weather and head outside for some family and wedding party portraits. Ashley had provided me with a list and this was organised to work super efficiently, with as little fuss as possible.

After the group shots, came the super-fun part! Exploring the building and the grounds of the beautiful Mitton Hall. We were absolutely spoiled for choice when it came to backdrops, whether we were inside on the balcony with the stained-glass windows, or outside at the front or the back of the hall. The bride and groom were super chilled and really enjoyed having a few minutes away from everybody to catch-up and cool down!

Day into night: from the Wedding Breakfast to the First Dance

Ashley wanted to have a photo dash with each table before the wedding breakfast, and I recommended that the groups ran up to the couple at the top table, rather than the other way around. Ashley cleared this with the venue beforehand, which meant the time had been factored in, so the caterers were not cheesed off, and the wonderful Chester (the wedding co-ordinator), did a fab job shouting each table in turn for a quick snap with the bride and groom. After a scrumptious indoor BBQ feast, there was a super emotional surprise for the bride’s mum, with a special dance for the two of them to Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me”, sung by the incredible Lavinia Barnsley.

A few more Couple’s Shots then Party Time!

As the day turned into night, there was the perfect opportunity to pop outside for a few more couple’s shots, an impromptu full wedding party gathering, some firelit magic with off-camera flash, and the all-important first dance afterwards.

It may have been my first time at Mitton Hall, but it certainly won’t be the last! A massive congratulations to the incredible Ashley & David… it was a wonderful day and I’m very glad you chose me to capture it all for you.
