Meols Hall Wedding Photography: Emily & Craig

Newlywed couple leaning in for a kiss outside a rustic brick building while cheering guests throw confetti.

I’ve had enquiries in the past for both Meols Hall and Tithe Barn, and assumed they were two completely different venues. In reality, the magnificent Tithe Barn forms part of the historic Meols Hall Estate in Southport, offering the best of both worlds: a stunning manor house backdrop and a 400-year-old barn steeped in rustic elegance, making any Meols Hall wedding a dream to capture.

Getting ready

Emily chose to get ready at her mum’s house, so I popped over there for some prep coverage before we headed onto the estate. As a wedding photographer, I’m used to working in every kind of environment imaginable—from tiny, bustling hotel rooms crammed full of suitcases, boxes, and bridesmaids, to wide-open spaces.

This house, however, was an absolute dream to photograph in. Having a family home styled with the effortless elegance of a high-end boutique hotel certainly doesn’t hurt the photos either!

On arriving at Meols Hall, I had a quick scope of the lighting in the barn (no complaints there) and then gathered Craig and his groomsmen for a couple of piccies by the barn doors.

After some guest photos and introductions, all that was left to do was to wait for the bride and her father to arrive in the classic wedding car.

The Ceremony in Tithe Barn: Meols Hall Wedding Highlights

Tithe Barn is nothing short of magnificent! Usually, when you think of a barn wedding, you think of low ceilings and cosy nooks, but this space has the highest ceilings, with beautiful beams and lots of atmospheric light – both natural and tastefully created. This was a summer wedding, but I can completely imagine this working just as well in the autumn/ winter season too.

After cheering their way down the aisle, the newlyweds had a few moments alone outside, whilst I organised the confetti exit in front of the barn doors.

Celebrations, Portraits & The Manor House

With such a relaxed vibe and a 4pm ceremony, there was plenty of time for canapes and drinks, before heading off in the wedding car for some photos in the beautiful grounds. The chauffeur from Southport Wedding Cars very kindly assisted me by throwing the veil in the air for a classic shot by the car, followed by some gorgeous couple’s shots and the traditional, but fun, family groups.

Evening

As the sun began to set, the speeches were held in the courtyard, completely in keeping with the informal, super-relaxed tone of the day. Lots of tears, hugs and laughter from everybody, and this family really knew how to show their love and appreciation for each other.

Cake, BBQ and Dance, Dance, Dance!

The title says it all really. The cake was absolutely exquisite, and as it was chopped up and served for dessert I actually had a little taste and it was soooo delicious.

The BBQ was cooked freshly in the courtyard, and alongside the incredible array of meats and sides, included a special South African sausage, with a nod to Craig’s family.

A live band just completed the whole event and really was the cherry on the cake on this most beautiful of wedding days.

Thank you so much to the beautiful Emily & Craig, and your wonderful family. Days like this are an absolute pleasure to be a part of, and I’m so glad you chose me to capture it all for you.
